Hand Fed Gouldian Finch!

Days 9 through 15

A little baby Gouldian Finch found its way to the bottom of the breeding cage. The parents (who were normally great parents) decided to abandon this baby. We keep society finches standing at the ready for just such a situation, but our pair of societies were not quite ready to take on another baby, and that left only one alternative - mommy Tammy! The number of pictures has grown so much, we had to break it up into multiple pages. The newest pictures are on the higher numbered pages.

Thrown from the nest, at 9 days living in a towel on the kitchen counter. Gouldian's have a crop that is on their 'shoulder'. You can see the bulge from just being hand fed (9 days)
Those little dots on the side of the beak are glow points that help the parents find the mouth in a dark nest box. 10 days old, and getting very used to the new mommy!
At 12 days old, feathers are coming in nicely. 13 days old and ready for a meal (every 1 1/2 hours around the clock). You get a great view of the glow points.
Another angle at 13 days old. It's amazing how quickly they mature The towel on the counter home was outgrown fast. Jimmy has moved into a new home (one he can't jump out of venture out on his own).
15 days old and ready to eat... AGAIN! Jimmy really looks forward to companionship (as much as he looks forward to a good meal).
